Draw Near to God the Way You’re Wired

God’s Love Is Constant

God’s love is not dependent on how we feel it. Romans 5:8 reminds us that his love was demonstrated through Christ, that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. His love does not increase when we feel closer to him, nor decrease when we feel distant. His love is steady, secure and proven. Nothing can separate us from him.

However, while God’s love is constant, our experience of closeness with him can vary.

There are seasons when his presence feels tangible and there are other times when he feels quiet or distant from us. This does not mean God has moved. It often means we are on a journey on how we personally connect with him.

 We Connect Differently

Just as people express love differently in relationships, believers may find themselves drawn to God through different expressions.

Some connect through worship.

Some through stillness.

Some through service.

Some through Scripture.

Some through creation.

None of these are superior. They are simply different pathways of connection. Drawing near to God may look like silence for one person and song for another. These are not categories meant to confine us, but invitations to notice where our hearts most readily respond and to lean into those spaces more intentionally. Recognising this is not about limiting ourselves to one way of relating to God. It is about becoming aware of how we are most naturally drawn to him, so that we can explore that space more intentionally rather than feeling like we are failing when a particular expression does not come easily.

 Why This Matters

Sometimes believers feel distant from God not because he is absent, but because they are trying to connect in a way that does not come naturally to them.

For example, someone drawn to stillness may feel overwhelmed in loud worship settings. Someone more action orientated may feel restless during extended quiet reflection. This does not make either approach wrong. It simply reflects different ways of engaging with God. Understanding this can remove unnecessary guilt and help us intimacy with God with greater freedom.

 Intimacy Grows Through Awareness

James 4:8 says: “Draw near to God and he will draw near to you.” Drawing near may look different for each person. But the more we understand how we connect with God, the more deeply we are able to walk with him. The same awareness can deepen our relationship with God.
