I knew nothing about who Charlie Kirk was until his assassination. Since then, I have looked into his life, and I find myself both humbled and challenged by his extraordinary legacy at such a young age. He was 31.
Charlie Kirk was unashamed about his Christian faith. On June 29, 2025, less than three months before his death, he appeared on The Iced Coffee Hour podcast. When the host asked him how he hoped to be remembered if “everything completely goes away,” Charlie responded:
“I want to be remembered for courage for my faith. That would be the most important thing; the most important thing is my faith.” (Fox News)
His organisation, Turning Point USA (tpusa.com), his Podcast, and his YouTube Channel were all platforms through which he sought not only to influence culture and politics, but also to point people to Jesus.
Charlie Kirk was killed during a speaking event at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025. Within days, his wife, Erika Kirk, gave a public address from her husband’s podcast office, beside his empty chair, holding tightly not only to memories but also to faith and purpose Erika Kirk addresses the Nation
In the speech, Erika said words that cut through grief with resolve:
“You have no idea what you have just unleashed … you have no idea the fire that you have ignited within this wife.” Through tears, she vowed that Charlie’s mission would not die—that his work, his values, his movement would carry on, louder and more clearly than ever.
What struck me most deeply was not just her promise to carry on her husband’s legacy, but her faith in God amid the pain. Thinking of their young children, she explained to their daughter that “daddy” would not return because he was on a work trip with Jesus. She spoke of Jesus as her husband’s Saviour, and that Charlie has been “received into the merciful arms of Jesus.” How humbling is that!
It’s easy to speak of faith when all is going well. But to trust and to hold firm when your world is torn apart takes another level of faith, courage, and trust. Erika exemplified that. Despite the tragedy, she showed that there is hope in God’s promises and in living for something larger than self.
I was both challenged and inspired to live in such a way that even when storms come, my faith and trust in God will not be shaken.
Reflection
- What anchors your faith and where do you turn when storms come?
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
In moments of loss and pain, you remain our refuge and strength. We lift up Erika and her children to you, asking for your comfort, peace, and sustaining grace. Thank you for Charlie’s life and the legacy of faith he leaves behind. Teach us to live with the same courage and conviction, so that even when storms come, our trust in you will remain unshaken. May our lives point to Jesus, the hope beyond all sorrow.
Amen.
